I mentioned in my previous post ‘How To Spot A Fake American Apparel Tennis Skirt’ that I haven’t had the best track record with money management in my first two terms at university due to excessive makeup buying and not having a permanent job to sustain myself. However, now I’m here in my last term with only four weeks left and this time I’ve done exceptionally well keeping my money in my bank account! This probably has a lot to do with the fact I got way more money this time and also that I have a permanent job, but I am so proud of myself that I decided to treat myself a little bit this weekend! I’ve done a little bit of shopping in Manchester, and a little bit of online shopping too, and here’s what I’ve bought! I will also link all of the things I’ve bought (if I can) to somewhere you can buy it online. If I can’t, I’ll at least say where I got it from so you can try and find it yourselves. The products range from super cheap to quite expensive, and a lot of these things I reckon you’ll be able to purchase for yourself!
Tangle Teezer – I’m sure a lot of you already own one of these – they’re so popular! I bought mine from Boots for £10.99. Originally I was going to get the Pink Fizz Tangle Teezer on Beauty Bay as they are currently on sale for £7.51, but as I got to the checkout bit it suddenly said they were out of stock so it got removed from my basket! However, they are back in stock now and still on sale if you want to buy one. In a way I’m glad that this happened to me because I much prefer the design of my lilac and pastel pink one – it suits me way more than the hot pink one! The Tangle Teezer can be used both on wet and dry hair, and it is small enough to throw in your bag when you go out. There is actually an even smaller travel sized one but for some reason it’s more expensive than the bigger one at £12.49; I don’t know why this is as it usually works the other way around, but if you prefer the smaller ones then you go for it! The Tangle Teezer is brilliant to use especially when you get out of the shower. It’s very gentle and untangles your hair quickly and easily. I have very fine hair and it can be very delicate when brushing it – when I was using just a normal hairbrush and my hair was wet I found that a lot of my hair was being pulled out with the brush, and no one wants that! I wasn’t sure what exactly it was that made the Tangle Teezer so much better than an average hairbrush, so I did a little bit of research. The longer teeth untangle hair and the shorter teeth smooth hair out, and apparently the teeth are designed to move around your hair, rather than your hair moving around the teeth, which is why the Tangle Teezer feels so gentle! I think it’s so worth purchasing – especially if you’re a girl with long, thick, and/or curly hair.
Real Techniques Cheek + Lip Set – I saw these brushes on sale in Superdrug for £13.99 – they’re usually £20.99 so I absolutely had to buy them! They are still on sale and I don’t know for how long but if you love Real Techniques brushes and you don’t already have this set, you’ve just got to get your hands on them, it’s such a great deal! The set comes with a cheek brush (very vague, but I think it would be great to use for powder and blush), a duo-fiber contour brush, and a retractable lip brush. The brushes are all very soft and feel very professional, like all Real Techniques brushes do, and I’ve been really enjoying using them so far. I find the lip brush to be particularly useful, especially since you can throw it into your bag and not worry about getting lipstick stains over everything since it has a cover on top of it!
Sleek Solstice Highlighting Palette – Sleek is a very affordable makeup brand that you can find in both Boots and Superdrug. I had never bought anything from Sleek before, as I thought it was going to be one of those really cheap brands where none of the products actually work that well (I am making big steps to becoming less of a makeup snob pls forgive me) but I was really surprised by this product! The first time I saw this palette was in Boots one time when I was shopping with my friends (shout out to de gyals ;)) and I can’t remember who exactly pointed it out but I was so surprised when I swatched it on my hand to see how crazy pigmented and gorgeous it was! I decided to leave it at the time as I wasn’t sure if I really wanted it, but as soon as I saw Jeffree Star use it in his ‘Get Ready In My Rolls Royce‘ video I was like YES! It definitely made up my mind about it. The gold packaging looks so classy and the colours inside are to die for!! In the top left is the shade Ecliptic, which is a creamy soft pink colour. It looks dark in the palette but it’s actually a beautiful pale pink! The top right holds Hemisphere, which is my favourite highlight in the palette. It’s a powder highlight that has a pearlescent vibe to it, and when it catches the light it’s a beautiful white-lilac colour. I love it on the cheekbones and in the corners of my eyes! The bottom left holds another powder highlight called Subsolar, I feel like it’s the most intense highlight in the palette and it almost seems to glow even in the shadows! It’s reminds me of a white-gold colour, and to use this would be a very bold move but I think it would look gorgeous for evening/night out looks! The last shade in the bottom right is Equinox (I love all the names of these shades I think they’re amazing!). I think this would be a gorgeous subtle highlight for tan skin/warm toned skin, or a shade that would give a nice warm glow to any skin type! I personally don’t think I’ll use it as much as the others as a pale girl – I don’t imagine it would look brilliant. I will mix it with the others, however, on it’s own I don’t think it’s for me. The palette is £9.99, and comes with a little black brush which feels a little bit scratchy and stiff for me, so I haven’t used it on my face. I used it to swipe some highlight on the back of my hand and I feel like it didn’t really do the shades justice – so instead I use my Real Techniques fan brush and it works a treat!
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz – I have been dying to own this product ever since I got the Dipbrow this Christmas. I always see so much about it and everyone seems to own it and now I finally have one too! I bought mine from Beauty Bay for £15.50 in the shade Taupe (same as what I use for Dipbrow). My hair is dyed to be very light blonde, I get it done around every six weeks at the hairdressers (fun fact: I’m getting it done tomorrow), and my natural hair colour is actually like a ‘strawberry blonde’, so yes I am a little bit of a ginger girl! I feel like my eyebrows are a little bit darker than this, but not dark enough to be considered brown, so that’s why I use Taupe! Not light enough to be blonde, but not dark enough to be brown. This product is brilliant for doing natural brow looks, as the tip is so thin you can really draw in those fine hairs and/or outlining the brows to get your desired shape before filling them in with the Dipbrow. It also has a spoolie on the end of it which is so handy for travel! The spoolie I normally use broke like two days before this arrived in the post so I bought it just at the right time it seems! I used the Brow Wiz for the first time today and I’m really loving it so far, but I’ll keep you updated on it as I use it more.
Gerard Cosmetics Hydra Matte Liquid Lipstick – This was something I kind of just bought on a whim when I was looking through Beauty Bay. I saw the packaging of the liquid lipsticks and I was like ‘they look cute’ (literally) so I decided to have a look at the colours, and I saw one, Invasion, that looked exactly like the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Baci that I’ve been dying to own for months but every time I go into Harvey Nichols it’s always sold out (and the last time I checked it was sold out online BUT OF COURSE it’s back in stock now I’ve bought the Gerard Cosmetics one >:( typical)! It was only £9.50 so I decided to try it out and I just bought it. I wore it for the first time today and it smells heavenly! They smell exactly like the Kylie Lip Kit liquid lipsticks – like a vanilla-chocolate smell – and it’s just gorgeous! Like most liquid lipsticks though, it is very drying and it settles into the fine lines of your lips which is a little bit upsetting but it’s so pretty I’ll still wear it! Everyone knows the consequences of wearing liquid lipsticks anyway – but dryness is nothing a little bit of lip exfoliater and lip balm can’t fix.
River Island White Lace Bra – I am a sucker for white lace bras, and I’m especially a sucker for mesh bras! As a life-long member of the small boobs club, I really don’t need a lot of support, and recently I’ve just found myself drawn towards mesh bras as they seem so much cuter to me than normal bras! This one was £18 from River Island (though technically it was £8 for me since I had a £10 gift card yaaas) and I have it in a size 6. Yes – size 6 – unfortunately they don’t do this bra in actual bra sizes so you’re kind of left to guess a bit as to which one is going to fit you! TMI, but I’m a 32B for reference and there is still some extra space for more boob in this bra. Sadly, they don’t do a size 4, so us smaller girls are just going to have to cope with some extra bra space!
Primark Flower Crown – Unfortunately I can’t find this on their website but I did only purchase this on Sunday so it should definitely still be in stock in whatever store is closest to you. And I know! What a basic bitch I am for buying a flower crown – that was the first thing Tom said to me anyway (rude). But I think it’s cute! It’s a gold metal band, decorated with three metal flowers at a time, and then a fabric pink flower separating every three. This flower crown was £4 from Primark and would be great for festivals, holiday looks, and any summer look in general! I know girls get a lot of hate for wearing flower crowns but let’s be honest a lot more guys in the world wear chinos (ew) compared to girls who wear flower crowns so who’s the real offender? Let’s just be honest with ourselves for a minute.
Primark Earrings – Another thing I can’t find on Primark’s website which is so typical, is a set of 9 earrings that are all shaped like different flowers which I think are so cute (I’m really into flowers at the moment). They’re all gold plated and are painted with pink and white colours. Some have little diamante pieces in the petals which I think is cute also… I just think they’re cute in general! They’re very summery, very girly, and very cheap, at just £2 for 9 pairs of earrings. I can’t really think of much to say about them – what you see is what you get!
Primark Gemini Necklace – Again, I can’t find it on the Primark website, but they’re doing a really cute set of zodiac jewelry at the moment! There’s necklaces, bracelets, and rings available from what I can remember – I was going to buy the rings too but even the small ones were too big for me (I am also part of the tiny fingers club apparently), so I just got the necklace! As a Gemini (my birthday is in 10 days and I want it to STOP because I am NOT emotionally ready to be 19!!) I bought the Gemini necklace, it’s gold plated with a pendant that spins around. The pendant basically just has the twin sign on the front and says ‘Gemini’ on the back. It’s the same kind of idea for all the other star signs – it will have printed the name of the sign on the back, and the sign itself on the front. It was very cheap at £2 and the chain is very long which is great if you want to pair it with another shorter-chained necklace!
Primark Gold Plated Necklace – Primark literally have nothing I bought on their website. LITERALLY. Anyway, this is just another simple necklace I bought from Primark. I don’t have a lot to say about it really – it looks like a very tribal kind of pattern, I’m not sure how else to describe it. I bought it because it reminded me of a necklace I bought from New Look one time which I accidentally broke – I was devastated because it was so cute and simple! This one is slightly bigger but it’s very similar so I had to buy it! It was £4, and I’m quite sure you could find it in a Primark close to where you live.
Blackberry Lip Balm – I bought this from Primark too, so obviously it’s not on their website. This is a super cheap lip balm – it’s only 80p!! It definitely smells like blackberry but it doesn’t taste like blackberry at all – I licked my lips after I put it on and it just tastes like cheap balm (if you’ve tried cheap lip balms before you know what I mean). However it is really good because it actually adds a very slight bit of colour to your lips, which is great for the times when you’re feeling a little bit washed out and pale, or times when you’re taking a break from lipstick to let your lips heal from dryness or something like that (I’ve been there before when I had a bad reaction to an exfoliater – it was awful – my skin, lips, and eyes were so dry I couldn’t wear makeup for like three days). It’s quite handy just to take around with you for emergencies – I’m wearing it now to let my lips soak up some moisture after wearing my new Gerard Cosmetics liquid lipstick!
Doc Martens Polley Virgina – LITERALLY the best thing I bought all weekend – my first ever pair of Docs!! On writing this I’m literally about to pick them up from the office in 10 minutes. I’m a size 4 shoe so I had to order my shoes in from the Liverpool store as they were sold out in the Manchester store and also sold out online! Only sizes 7 and above are still available on the website now; apparently they will be restocked, but no one knows when unfortunately. I feel so lucky I managed to get my hands on them! Of course I had to buy the t-bar ones in bubblegum (pastel pink) – because duh, isn’t that just so me?! They’re £95 normally, but students get 10% off so I managed to get mine for £85.50. I’m so in love already and they haven’t even arrived yet. I can’t give my own opinion yet since I don’t have them, but upon reading reviews it seems that they’re very comfortable and a lot easier to break in than classic Docs. I’ll definitely let you know how I feel about them in future once I’ve worn them a bit!
Well, that’s all for this haul post. I hope you enjoyed it. I’m going to get going now to pic up my new Docs (internal screaming) so I’ll see you in the next one! ♥
