It’s been a while hasn’t it? Two months in fact. This is the longest break I have had from blogging, and the worst part is I don’t really have a great reason for it rather than not feeling like myself, and not being in the mood to blog. I’ve found myself feeling fed up of feeling down and bored, and since it’s the start of a new year, I’ve finally decided I’m going to try and turn it around and feel better about myself. I always feel happier when I’m busy, it gives me a feeling of purpose. So, here is my list of New Year’s Resolutions, most of which will be a learning process and won’t happen straight away, but the good thing is there’s no deadlines on resolutions!
Stay On Top of Uni Work – I feel like I did well with this already in my first term, but there’s always room for improvement, and from now on things will be getting more intense with more essays and exams to come. This ties into managing stress because I always feel a lot less stressed when I know I’ve gotten things done in advance and I’m not having to write a whole essay in 2 days (throwback to first year).
Sort A Good Practice Routine For Singing – Another thing for university; for those who don’t know I’m doing a degree in music and my instrument is the voice. This year I really want to push myself to get better at what I do and learn new techniques without feeling so scared and self conscious all the time. In the first term I really struggled with the performance side of things at university, and I’m not sure what has made me feel this way but I’m very much done with being upset at uni because it’s getting me absolutely nowhere. It’s not a good feeling, so I’m going to prepare myself and sort out an effective practice routine, which I’ve been neglecting to do for a year already. Practice + preparation = confidence!
Personal Development Resolutions
Learn To Organise Money – One of my worst personal failings is not being able to make my money last. I’ll get paid, spend all of my money in a week, and then will feel bad about everything I’ve spent money on for the next three weeks as I’m struggling and the cycle repeats by next payday! This also applies to my student loan as well. This year I’m going to work out how much money I have to spend per week so I’m never in a difficult situation again. Not to mention I have a holiday to save for and have to find a new place to live next year (stressful).
Manage Stress – Another one of my worst qualities is how easily I get stressed about things. I let every little thing pile on top of me and it stops me from getting anything done. Everyone gets stressed from time to time, but there’s quite a lot of us who don’t know how to deal with it and end up feeling anxious or depressed, or both. A lot of you will understand and probably relate to this and this may resonate with you. For me, especially before Christmas, I felt bad when I wasn’t working hard, and if I took a moment to not do anything, I would be thinking about all the things I needed to get done. I felt bad that I hadn’t kept up with my blog, felt bad that I wasn’t doing uni work, felt bad that I wasn’t learning new things, etc. It’s an awful feeling. This year I’m trying to learn that I can have a lazy day every once in a while, and it is okay for me to have a couple of hours of down time, even when I feel like there’s a lot to do.
‘Just For Fun’ Resolutions
Read More – I love reading, and have only just started to read more as the year was ending. In 2016 I barely read anything, and reading is so important and I do enjoy it. At the moment I’m actually reading a lot of manga, especially the Sailor Moon books (they’re super cute!). I do intend to keep reading throughout 2017. They also help me when I feel stressed because it feels like I’m doing work when really, I am having fun, so it helps with the guilt I feel when I don’t do anything!
Learn Japanese – In 2016 I became very interested in Japanese culture. I’ve signed up for and participated in a few online courses on different aspects of Japan. I find these online courses on FutureLearn, which I really recommend to anyone who wants to do extra learning in their free time, they have all kinds of subjects. Since learning more about their culture, I have wanted to learn their language too! I have only just started, but I’m really enjoying it because right now I don’t know any other language than English, and I gave up on learning Spanish at school. To learn the language, I am using a couple of free resources like the app Memrise, and this online Hiragana course.
I also want to get back on with posting once a week on my blog. Hopefully I will be able to keep up with this, but I won’t be putting any pressure on myself so I hope you guys understand. What are your new year’s resolutions? Do you have any at all? Do let me know, because I am interested! Thanks for reading and I hope to see you next week in the next post. A late Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all! ❤
